Porthleven 3, Penryn Ath 1

TEN-MAN Porthleven withstood relentless second half pressure from Penryn to record a second notable victory in a week at a rain-soaked Gala Parc on Saturday.

Following on from their Senior Cup win against Godolphin, the home side were in the ascendancy again early in this match, racing into a 3-0 lead before a red card for central defender Callum Grahamslaw gave the visitors a chance for a reprieve in the second period.

After home keeper Ethan Fearn had denied Scott Palmer and David Broglino early on, Dan Hindmarch put Port ahead with a fine free kick after ten minutes.

Midway through the period keeper Chris Symons could only parry another Hindmarch effort and Heydon Dark was on hand to despatch the rebound.

Kyle Marks then converted another free kick after Hindmarch had been fouled to leave Penryn reeling, but after some stern words from boss Paul Murray at half time, the visitors began to claw their way back into the match.

Fearn was unable to hold on to a Broglino effort and Palmer turned in the loose ball to reduce the arrears on the hour mark, before the turning point in the game arrived.

A Penryn shot bounced back off the crossbar and struck Grahamslaw's arm, earning him a second yellow card and a penalty for the visitors.

Palmer stepped up to take it but his shot was saved by Fearn and despite Penryn's dominance and numerical advantage, the home side defended brilliantly to record their seventh league win of the season and move up to seventh place in the table.
