WENDRON Football Club hosted a three-day celebration of its 30th birthday with a series of matches featuring players and managers from the last three decades.

Starting on Saturday morning with a clutch of youth matches, including an under-15s game against Illogan, the afternoon saw Wendron's first team beat Plymouth Marjons with a last minute goal and their fourth team rack up a 9-4 victory over Hayle in the Trelawny League.

On Sunday club chairman Kevin Williamson put together a team to take on a side of other age groups, before teams run by former managers Derek Care, Jos Bray and Rick McAndrew took to the field.

Former players included Sam Howard, who travelled from Aberdeen, Kevin Pauley from Milton Keynes and Cotton brothers Ross and James, from Exeter.

The final day of action on Monday began with a match between two veteran's teams organised by Brian Scoffin, which included former Wendron stalwarts such as Chris Wolstencroft and Will Scoley.

Lee Hodson, who now lives in Bristol, brought his number nine shirt that he wore 28 years ago.

Following that match an under-21 side run by Treve Matthews and Andrew Mitchell took on an All Stars team, before the final match consisted of teams put together by past managers Steve Webber and Robin Watt.

Organiser Peter Thorne said: "It was a fantastic three days and we would like to thank all teams, managers and players for helping to make it such a success."

The club also presented a cheque for £1500 to autistic youngster Jamie Roberts. The money was raised from the Sharon Wood youth tournament in July.

A comprehensive programme packed full of pictures, statistics and articles spanning the last 30 years is now on sale for £3. Anyone wishing to purchase a copy should contact the club.
