PORTHLEVEN Football Club's season is already starting to shape following the arrival of new boss Kev Richards a couple of months ago.

The former Mullion manager admits this time of year is something of a "nightmare" as players and clubs try to find a happy marriage, but he is hopeful that another five or six new faces will be signing on at Gala Parc in the next fortnight.

"It is a busy time but that's why we love it," he said.

"Players these days like to have a look at two or three different clubs before they commit, but there are several players that are not on the retained list who we hope will make the decision to join us," he added.

The experienced Jamie Burr has already signed from Penzance, while Helston Athletic pair Matt Fox and Frazier Patterson have also made the short journey from Kellaway Parc.

Fox was a regular in Sid Taylor's Premier Division squad last year but was unable to hold down a regular place in the starting eleven, while Patterson impressed in Graham Blake's Combination League side.

Burr returns to Porthleven from Penlee Park, but Luke Hunter, Ryan Trathen and keeper James Wignall have all left Port to sign for the Magpies.

"There are a lot of clubs in this area and we're all understandably trying to bring in the best players. I want to sign another five or six players to put pressure on the existing squad and also boost the Combination League team, because trying to strengthen the entire club, not just one side," said Kev.

The start of the season is still over a month away, but with the Dave Gardner Memorial Trophy in less than three weeks' time, Richards and his coach Martin Pennington will hope to have identified the bulk of their squad by that date.
