Hughie Howlett, on his return from Navy duties, scored twice to put the Blues in command, before the hosts hit back with two goals of their own.
In a breathless first half captain Jamie Thomson put Helston back in front with a tremendous long range effort, before top scorer Mark Goldsworthy made the points safe with a fourth goal in the second half.
Falmouth Town went down 2-1 at Saltash, who leapfrogged them in the table, while Tavistock won 3-0 at Godolphin.
Elburton Villa kept their survival hopes alive with a 3-3 draw at Callington.
