Helston 12, Liskeard-Looe 16
HELSTON'S agonising defeat - their tenth of the season in Cornwall 1 - sets up an all or nothing final league match at St Agnes in ten days' time.
They lie second from bottom in the table and ideally must produce a bonus point win and hope that Perranporth are beaten by title-chasing Lanner on the same day.
Coach Niall Devonish said: "There is a great sense of pride playing for the club and the players do not want to let themselves down. From a recruitment and retention point of view, it is important that we play the highest standard we can, so we'll make sure we're fully prepared for the St Agnes game."
There are other administrative elements which could aid Helston's fight for survival. Perranporth have conceded two games this season and a decision is yet to be made by the CRFU as to whether they will have points deducted.
It may not come to that though, if Helston can seal a five-point win and Perran fail to take anything from their game against Lanner.
It was fine margins against Liskeard-Looe, with the hosts pressing their line in the final stages.
They thought they had scored a dramatic late try through flanker Craig Saunders, but the referee adjudged that he made a double movement and from the resulting penalty, the visitors kicked to touch to end the game.
Helston began the game well and scored tries through Decarlo Trerise and Ross Williams, one of which was converted by Calvin Warwick.
But the youthful Liskeard-Looe side roared back into the game and despite Saunders' late attempt, hung on for victory.
