WENDRON Football Club will celebrate their 30th birthday later this year with a festival of football over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The club is asking all former youth players to get in touch with their managers via social media as it plans to stage a tournament reuniting team mates.

That event will be held on Sunday, August 28 and on Monday the club will host a youth tournament. On Saturday they hope to stage two men's league matches.

Club chairman Peter Thorne said that the men's teams were formed 30 years ago, with the youth section being formed around five years later.

Since then they have developed youth teams from under-9s to under-15s, with weekly training for under-6s to under-8s on Thursdays from 5.30-6.30pm. Anyone interested in joining can go along or contact the club for more details on 01209 860946.

The Sharon Wood Tournament will take place on Sunday, July 16, with up to 100 youth teams taking part. The club needs 16 teams for each age group and entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Application forms are available on the Wendron FC website.
