Penzance 1, Porthleven 1

THIS was a bittersweet point for the Fishermen after their derby draw in Division 1 West of the SWPL at Penlee Park on Saturday.

They earned their first league point since September 26, but it really ought to have been all three after a dominant second half display.

Teenagers Joel Allen and Jack Webber made their league debuts and it was the latter who earned his side a point with a thunderous 20-yard drive that gave impressive home keeper Paul Williams no chance.

Penzance, also in dire need of points before the start of play, started brightly and former Port player Dominic Batchelor saw his shot come back off a post after the ball was only half cleared.

The hosts did take the lead after 20 minutes when Jake Andrew fired in from 20 yards and the Magpies should have doubled their lead when Liam Dent was in goal with only James Wignall to beat, but the Port keeper saved it with his legs.

Port rode their luck in the first half but made an immediate impact at the start of the second half when Webber's unstoppable shot gave them fresh impetus after good work from Jowan Shaneberg.

Player-manager Charlie Young shot wide from a free kick, Jon Row headed wide from a corner and George Molcher's shot on the turn was saved by Williams as Port sniffed victory.

Freddie Williams then headed wide for the visitors but they were unable to find another goal for a long-awaited victory.
