Porthleven 1, Newquay 4

PORTHLEVEN conceded four goals in 12 second half minutes to bow out of the Cornwall Senior Cup against their higher league opponents on Saturday.

After an even first half in which the Fishermen could have taken the lead, a Jack Bowyer hat-trick ensured there would be no cup upset at Gala Parc.

Jowan Shaneberg's shot on the run was blocked early in the game and Ryan Trathen squandered a great chance to put the hosts in front when he was put through by Jack Webber, a recent signing from Hayle. Trathen was clear through on goal but his shot was saved by the feet of the visiting keeper.

Just before the break former Port striker Jordan Annear came within inches of scoring against his old club when his shot on the turn came back off the post.

Six minutes into the second half Port's resistance was broken when a mix-up in the home defence enabled Bowyer to steal in and take the ball past keeper James Wignall before finishing into an empty net.

Four minutes later a long range effort from Jack Piper rebounded off a post and Bowyer was on hand to double his side's lead.

Worse was to follow just before the hour mark when Piper's cross from the right was swept in by Bowyer to complete his hat-trick in just seven minutes.

Tom Heywood then put through his own net to complete a miserable passage of play for Port, who did manage to grab a consolation four minutes from time when Charlie Young's speculative shot was only parried by the keeper and Freddie Williams followed up to give the home supporters something to cheer.

Porthleven: J Wignall, C Woodhouse, J Hall, J Webber, D Tarrant, T Heywood, F Williams, C Young, R Trathen, M Best, J Shaneberg. Subs: L Emley, J Harrison, B Brown, S Freeman.

Port have a crucial relegation battle on Saturday when they make the short journey to Penzance in Division 1 West. Kick off is 2.30pm.
