ALL good teams need a goalscorer and in Mark Goldsworthy, Helston have one of the best in the south west.

On Saturday the 24 year old took his tally to 201 in just four and a half seasons in the South West Peninsula League.

"It's a big step up into the Premier Division but it's nice to still be scoring goals at this level because there's always doubters but hopefully that'll keep them quiet," said Goldsworthy, who has already notched 23 league goals in just 20 matches.

"Helston are definitely in my heart and I've always wanted to get into this division with my club. It's been one helluva journey, it was always going to be a massive learning curve."

Besides his fantastic record in the league, he has also scored 299 goals for Helston, the highest ever by a first team player. Goldsworthy has had brief spells and Penryn and Truro City in the past, but he is relishing the contribution his is making to his home town club.

"I'm really happy to be scoring freely for Helston in this league, but as long as the team are winning, I don't mind if I score or not. We've had some great performances this season - on Saturday against Saltash we were brilliant - but we've also been terrible, as we were at Falmouth on Boxing Day.

"We can't just turn up and win like we did in some games last season, because the standard is much higher," he added.

If the Blues rely on his goals under usual circumstances, that burden has just increased following an injury on Saturday to strike partner Phil Cattran, which could keep him out for six weeks.

"I was absolutely gutted when Phil was injured - we've formed a really good partnership this season and there'll be a lot of pressure on me to score in his absence," said Goldsworthy.

Jordan Adlard also went off with a recurrence of his knee problem, but this Saturday boss Sid Taylor will welcome back captain Jamie Thomson and Jason Roberts, who were both unavailable for the Saltash game.

Helston who have leapt up to seventh in the table, entertain struggling Stoke Gabriel. Falmouth Town, whose game at Launceston was postponed on Saturday, make the long trip to mid-table Witheridge this weekend.
