Helston Ath 5, Porthleven 0
HELSTON brushed aside their struggling local rivals in this Boxing Day clash as 17 year old Matt
Buchan hit a second half hat-trick.
Despite their lowly league position, Port battled well in the first period and were only behind
courtesy of a long range effort from Dan Turner after eight minutes.
But the Blues’ superiority showed in the second period and they came flying out of the traps with
two goals in the first five minutes through Buchan. The first effort was from close range and the
second was with the aid of a deflection.
He completed his hat-trick, again from close range, with just under 20 minutes to go, before Keith
Jacka burst through to round the keeper and notch the fifth for his side with ten minutes left on the
clock.
Mullion 3, Penryn Ath 0
DESPITE losing three key players to Porthleven in the week, Mullion’s new boss Kevin Richards
started in style with this comprehensive home win to keep their title hopes intact.
They led at the break thanks to a superb goal from Darren Meagor who cut in and curled a
tremendous shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.
The hosts took control after the break and doubled their advantage when Jamie Greet made a break
to the byline and pulled the ball back for Rob Carey to hammer in a decisive second.
Youngster Tom Bryant set the seal on a satsifying return for Richards when he pounced on the
rebound following a free kick from Jamie Greet.
Perranwell 3, Falmouth Town 1
VETERAN striker Dominic Pullen added another to his tally as he scored against his former club on
Boxing Day.
Pullen volleyed home from just inside the area after quarter of an hour and Jack Adams, son of
Perran manager Casey, doubled their lead before the interval with an excellent finish in the top
corner.
Falmouth rallied in the second period and pulled one back through Tom Richards to set up an
exciting finish. They might have snatched an equaliser before the points were settled when David
Standing prodded home the decisive third goal.
Mawnan 5, Constantine 1
PLAYING only their fourth home league fixture of the season, Mawnan ended the year in the best possible way with a 5-1 win over Constantine in the Trelawny League premier division.
It is one of the oldest local derbies in junior football still to take place on Boxing Day, but an unusually low-key encounter ended in bizarre circumstances with Constantine having two players shown a red card 15 minutes from time.
A seemingly uneventful situation took a turn for the worse when a Constantine player – about to be yellow carded for a foul – and with no other players involved, got completely out of hand when a lack of discipline saw the player red carded for a further serious offence. To compound matters a second Constantine player, who had nothing to do with the incident, also managed to get himself sent off for abuse to the referee.
The scenario was totally out of context in a game that saw Mawnan squander three good chances before Constantine missed a golden opportunity themselves from close range.
Mawnan eventually broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when a Pete Sharp pass found Josh Kelly who drilled his shot into the corner of the net.
Two minutes later Mawnan added a second goal when Adam Keenan got on to a cross from Josh Davis to head past Darren Griffiths and 10 minutes before the break Mawnan tightened their grip when Keenan managed to work the ball to Davis to shoot home.
Ryan James almost added a fourth when his header from Adam Pryor’s corner struck the woodwork, but it was Constantine who drew first blood in the second half when Griffiths launched a long ball that Mawnan hesitated to clear and Will Hing pounced to hit a perfect lob over the keeper to score.
Davis grabbed his second from a Dan Knowles pass on the hour to put Mawnan 4-1 ahead and following the red mist incident that killed the game stone dead, Mawnan added a fifth when Jamie Carnon’s run and cross was finished off by Christian Blundell.
In the only other league game played on the day, Lizard Argyle extended their lead at the top of the table with a 4-1 derby success over St Keverne. The goals came from Tristan Hawkins, Luke Higgs, Colin Kettle and Craig Pollard.
