ANOTHER Christmas, another chance for bragging rights to move two miles from Penryn to Falmouth.

Fierce rugby rivals Penryn and Falmouth are separated only by one division and with Borough languishing at the foot of the table and the Eagles flying high near the top of theirs, it is set up for a cracker at the Memorial Ground on Boxing Day (2.30pm).

Penryn coach Paul Trevaskis said: “League status doesn’t matter when it comes to derby games.

He added: "They are the form side, the noisy neighbours."

“It’s a great occasion for both clubs because it gives the players a chance to play in front of a big crowd. The standard of rugby they are playing week in, week out, does not always attract the crowds that it warrants, but hopefully if the weather is okay we can have a good game and a beer afterwards.”

Borough ran in four answered tries to record a comfortable 26-0 victory last year, but Eagles fans will be hoping for something much closer this time around.

Trevaskis added: “We will pick our strongest squad because we want to kick on in the New Year and if we can beat Falmouth it’ll help us to do that. Some good results recently have given us confidence and the players are more positive in thought and attitude."

Penryn will select from a full strength squad, with Ross Hancock available again after an ankle injury kept him out of their thrilling last-gasp win over Sidmouth on Saturday.
