DEFENDING champions St Dennis surged to the top of the Q Cornwall Leisure Veterans League with a convincing 9-0 win over visiting Grampound.

Prolific marksman Chris Truscott hit a second hat-trick in as many games with Richard Stoneman (2), Steve Dingle, Dave Grose, Dave Rickard and Kev Morcom weighing in with the Saints' other goals also scoring.

Grampound had a chance for a late consolation from the penalty spot, but Darren Mortimer’s well struck shot was well saved by Billy Davies.

Despite dominating the majority of the match at Enys Park, it took a late goal from defender David Coates to rescue a draw for Western Inn Veterans against a dogged St Agnes Bolsters side.

Throughout the game, the visitors spurned countless opportunities and were made to pay when a defensive error midway through the second half gifted the hosts a 1-0 lead. With time running out Coates powered home a Dan O’Shaughnessy corner in stoppage time to give the visitors a point, which was the least they deserved.

Threemilestone suffered their second defeat of the season, but put in a spirited performance at last season’s runners up Callington Town. The game looked to be over at half time when the hosts raced into a 3-1 lead. The visitors reduced the arrears in the second half to 3-2, but couldn’t force an equaliser.

Holmans Cruisers came away with three points from their long trip to Lanreath versus Downderry Rovers. The home side raced into a 2-0 half time lead, but the Camborne based side stormed back in the second half to eventually win 4-3.

Halsetown couldn’t follow up their stunning opening day 10-1 victory over Bodmin Town when they went down to a home defeat at St Ives Rugby Club, against a rampant visiting Perranporth team who ran in seven goals without reply.
