A LEADING figure within the Cornwall RFU set-up has sadly died.

John Grindle, who was the organisation's president, passed away on Monday with his death being announced to the rugby community earlier today.

For many years Grindle was chairman of the CRFU Rugby Development Committee and in the 2014/2015 season was made President of Cornwall RFU.

During his time in the role, John visited many Cornish clubs offering support and guidance and was also present at Twickenham in May when the county won the Bill Beaumont Cup.

Paying tribute to Grindle, current Cornwall RFU chairman Denis Preece said: "The rugby community of Cornwall is saddened to learn of the passing of John.

"The CRFU have had the benefit of his knowledge and experience over a number of years and he has guided us through some major changes during the last couple of years.

"Personally, and on behalf of everybody involved with the CRFU and, I am sure the rugby community of Cornwall, we send out heartfelt condolences to John’s wife Joyce and to his wider family.

"John’s presence, knowledge and leadership will be greatly missed and almost impossible to replace."
