ALEX O'Meara bagged a hat-trick of tries for the Cornish Pirates in their latest pre-season friendly against Camborne.

All of his dot downs came in a 20 minute period during the second half at the Mennaye as the hosts eventually romped to a 41-24 victory over the South West One side.

Alex Dancer, Jack Arnott and Tom Hendrickson also went over the whitewash for the Greene King IPA Championship outfit as they were given a good workout by the Cherry & Whites.

Laurence May's early penalty and tries from Dancer and Arnott helped build a 17 point lead for the Pirates in the early stages before Brad Howe's sin-binning allowed Town a way in.

James Goldsworthy went over at the Newlyn end from a maul and Richie added a conversion before kicking a penalty not long after the restart.

Hendrickson responded with a try for the Pirates to push them further ahead, but the advantage was just seven points at the break as Cameron Bone bundled his way over the line.

It then became the O'Meara show as the replacement, signed during the summer from Hartpury College, sparked plenty of excitement in the rain.

Sam Matavesi made sure it was not a complete shut-out in the second half as he was able to provide cheer for visiting fans, scored while hooker Tom Channon was on the naughty step.

Tomorrow the Pirates visit Taunton for their final preparation game before the 2015/16 league campaign starts on September 6 at home to Nottingham.
