DESPITE a traumatic few days which saw Wendron United come into their season opener managerless, the newly promoted side pulled off a remarkable result.

Saturday's saw the side play their first South West Peninsula League West match since 2009 with Vospers Oak Villa travelling to Underlane.

Just 72 hours before kick-off, the club were rocked by the resignation of Stuart Massey, who only took charge of the team in June after Paul Murray stood down.

Their old manager was drastically brought back in to steady the ship ahead of the game with last season's SWPL West runners-up and although Murray could not stay for the whole game, his team talk did the trick as they triumphed 3-0.

Proceedings were delayed as Vospers got stuck in traffic and when the game did start, the visitors were forced to take the field with nine players.

With quarter of an hour gone, Dron went in front through a superb strike by Steve Brewer after the creative midfielder skipped past a couple of defenders before hitting an unstoppable shot.

Another good solo effort saw the hosts' go 2-0 up towards the end of the first half with Justin Searle the scorer this time.

Vospers were able to field a full team after the interval and managed to keep their opponents at bay until injury time when skipper Mikey O'Neill got on the end of a cross from Tom Langford.

With the future remaining uncertain for Dron, they travel to Mousehole tonight before welcoming Liskeard Athletic to Underlane on Saturday.
