A QUICK turnaround has happened in the Clifden Parc dugout as Mullion unveiled their new manager – and it is as a familiar face returns.

The Jolly’s Combination League club confirmed on Saturday Alan Carey had agreed to take on the role for the 2015-16 season after initially being put in caretaker charge.

As revealed by the Packet last week, Kevin Richards stood down from the post after three years in charge.

Carey spent a big part of his playing career with the club and was previously in charge between October 2008 and January 2009.

Club chairman Chris Rosevear said the appointment of Carey will allow the team to progress after their title success last season.

Rosevear said: “With the fantastic news that Alan has agreed to take on the management position, the team will be able to build on the success of last season and again mount a strong challenge on all fronts, particularly for the league championship.”

The 56-year-old has experienced an interesting managerial career with plenty of highs and lows.

After taking charge of Porthleven, he made them a side who consistently finished near the top of the old South Western League and also helped them make the FA Vase quarter finals stage in 1998.

Carey left the Fishermen in 2004 and went onto manage at Bodmin Town where he claimed the South West Peninsula League Premier title in the competition’s maiden season.

He also bagged the Throgmorton Cup and Cornwall Charity Cup during his tenure there.

Whilst in charge of the Priory Park outfit, Carey also saw the side wi In October 2008, he surprisingly stood down as Bodmin’s boss and within a week was unveiled as Mullion’s manager.

A few months later he went to took at Bickland Park and stayed there until October 2012 when he resigned after a poor start to the season.

Just eight months earlier, Carey had quit as Ambers boss over a row with the Cornwall FA, who expelled the club from the Senior Cup for fielding an ineligible player, before making a dramatic U-turn and staying on.

At the start of the 2013-14 season, Carey took over at Newquay but was sacked before Christmas after a string of poor results.

Since taking temporary charge of Mullion, Carey has already overseen a 2-1 victory against Wendron United, who were promoted to the SWPL West instead of them, and a 1-0 win over Bodmin.

The club have also announced their new sponsors for the season will be Porthleven-based RGB Ltd.
