CORNWALL won their Unicorns Counties Championship clash with Cheshire at St Austell today, taking the eight wickets they required in just over two hours.

Needing 416 to win, Cheshire were bowled out for 153 with Brad Wadlan taking six for 54 and Christian Purchase three for 64.

They were 72-7 at one stage before Cornwall tried to buy the last three wickets.

The win keeps Cornwall at the top of the Western Division with two games to play.

Oxfordshire beat Herefordshire by 133 runs today to maintain a three point gap between the two sides.

It sets up nicely the penultimate championship game at Banbury a week on Sunday.

The other nearest challengers, Berkshire and Shropshire, were both struggling to force wins going into the final hour as the Packet went to press.

Cornwall’s margin of victory was their second highest in history by runs with only the 345 run success at Newport, against Monmouthshire in 1909 has been higher.

The hosts were dismissed for 240 after winning the toss on Sunday, with Brad Wadlan top scoring with 60.

They fought back to dismiss Cheshire for 124 by the close with 16-year-old Tim Wyatt becoming the youngest ever Cornwall bowler to take a championship wicket.

On a rain interrupted second day, Matt Rowe and Tom Hughes put on a century opening stand.

Cheshire had 45 minutes batting on the second evening reaching 41-2.
