NEW Wendron United boss Stuart Massey believes the club have a bright future ahead of them - and has urged players to join in.

The 52-year-old is set to take charge of his first training session at Underlane tomorrow after moving into the hotseat following Paul Murray's departure earlier this month.

As revealed by Packet Sport on June 3, Murray left the managerial role with Dron due to work commitments after a fantastic 2014/15 campaign which saw the side win promotion to the South West Peninsula League West and pick up two cups.

Massey who has previously managed in the same division with Helston Athletic and Penryn Athletic said he is looking to build on the success of his predecessor and has set up a "professional" plan for the team.

"This is the place to be for the future," Massey said.

"I want all the existing senior players at the club and any new players interested in joining us to come along to our pre-season training.

"I have put together a pre-season campaign that will allow players the basic and fundamental platform to get themselves in shape for the forthcoming season.

"Staff from Cornwall High Performance will also be coming in to deliver the pre-season fitness programme and there will also be guest coaches helping deliver the pre-season plans."

Sponsorship has also been secured by the club which will give the first team, who will be making their debut in the SWPL West, new kit and use of physiotherapists during the season.

Ahead of the campaign's start, Dron will play friendlies against RNAS Culdrose, Mullion, Holmans, Callington Town and Redruth United.

The club's reserve side, who are under management of Andrew Mitchell and Josh McDonald, will be taking part in the Ron Curnow Memorial Trophy alongside St Keverne, Lizard Argyle and Mullion.

Matches start on July 27 with the finals day on August 1 at Clifden Parc.

Anyone interested in playing for the reserves should email jmcdonald88@hotmail.com.

Training will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.45pm onwards.
