JACK Stanley has been called up to the England Under 18s squad for their development tour of South Africa.

The Exeter Chiefs Academy player, who grew up in Helston, was named in the 26 man group who will travel to the country in August for three matches against France, South Africa and South Africa A.

Stanley first played rugby in Helston's youth section, which has alumni in the form of Cornish Pirates squad member Brad Howe and Tommy Phillips, who was part of the England Counties U20s side who defeated the Hungarian Barbarians 90-24 on Thursday.

Niall Devenish, head coach of the Clodgey Lane outfit, said: "Naturally we are very proud to see Jack get the call from England, just as we are with Brad and Tommy who have recorded some fantastic achievements in the last year."

Alongside the prop, Exeter team-mates Billy Keast, Josh Caulfield and Jack Maunder are also included in the squad.

Robin Cowling, the Chiefs Academy manager, said: "As a club we’re always delighted to see any of our players rewarded with international call-ups.

"Over the years the England Under-18s side has been the initial stepping stone for young players going on to play in tournaments such as the Junior World Championships.

"Players such as Luke Cowan-Dickie, Jack Nowell, Henry Slade, Sam Hill, Joel Conlon and Stu Townsend have all played at this age level before then going onto play for the U20s and in some cases even higher levels, including full Test standard."
