BRAGGING rights went to Falmouth's first team as they defeated their colleagues in the seconds by seven wickets in the Vinter Cup second round.

Ever since the draw paired together the XIs from the Trescobeas Road-based club, excitement has built around the Hine Downing Oval for the game last Wednesday.

In the end, the firsts proved too strong for their counterparts as they eased to victory and continue their mission to reach the Twenty20 competition's final for a third straight year.

The seconds, who were officially the home side, went into bat and found runs hard to come by as Glyn Furnival and Jordan Thomas bowled well.

Neither picked up any wickets for their efforts, but Antony Angove, fresh from his appearance with Cornwall against the Welsh Minor Counties on Sunday, did get opener William Fortescue caught behind for seven.

Angove finished his four overs with figures of three for 15, claiming the scalps of James Crannis and Thomas Hoban.

Only Jacob Stephens, 22, and Andrew Varker, ten, were the only second team players to reach double figures with the bat as they finished on 63-8.

It took 14.5 overs for the firsts to complete the victory with wicketkeeper batsman scoring 35 not out and skipper Sean Hooper finishing unbeaten on 15.

Sohail Tariq picked up two wickets for ten runs while Jai Sadiwala got Christian Purchase out for three.
