PROMOTION to the South West Peninsula League West Division is an achievement for all involved at Wendron United to be proud of - according to first team boss Paul Murray.

On Thursday the SWPL board confirmed the 2015/16 season constitution which included the confirmation of United's move up from the Jolly's Combination League.

Although Dron finished second to Mullion this season, they have been elevated to the West Division after their near rivals' Clifden Parc home failed the required ground inspection, a test which Underlane passed.

With promotion now confirmed, Murray said he was delighted, adding everyone at the club should be thanked along with the squad for making it possible.

He also said the side are excited about next season already.

Murray said: "It is a fantastic achievement by the club and I especially pleased for Peter Thorne and Kevin Williamson because of all the hard work they have put in behind the scenes over the years.

"They are the backbone of the football club.

"Our promotion also gives a number of players the chance to prove and test themselves at a slightly higher level.

"Football locally sometimes goes a bit stale, so it is good to have another club in the area to challenge the established teams, making it better for local football."
