LIFE in the Cornwall Cricket County One Division got slightly tougher for St Gluvias on Saturday as they suffered defeat for the first time this season.

The Penryn club fell to a 50 run loss at their Kernick Road home against St Minver, who like the Saints were also won promotion in 2014.

It was also a repeat of last year's County Final which saw the Saints pick up the silverware with a 66 run victory.

On Saturday though, Minver turned the tables and were able to rattle through the Gluv's batsmen after posting a score of 188 all out as both sides only had three players who reached double figures.

Minver's total was built around a knock of 85 from their South African overseas batsman Cebo Tshiki, with ten fours and a six in his innings.

He fell short of a century though as Scott Kellow bowled him.

Joining Tshiki in the double figures club for Minver where opening batsman Ben Hawken, who scored 24, and Thomas Shrewsbury, 27.

Richard Kellow picked up five wickets, but for a second week in a row the Saints gave away a large number of extras with 37 being added to Minver's total, following up from 57 against Roche Old Boys.

In their reply, last week's centurion Jake Preston was out early on for five runs.

This saw Kellow join his younger brother Scott at the crease and the pair looked to be going along nicely before the elder sibling was given out LBW for 18.

His relative went on to chalk up 54 before being caught and bowled by Tshiki.

Apart from these two, the only other batsman to reach double figures was Jack Gleadowe who hit 19 down at number nine after the middle order struggled.

Eventually the Saints were bowled out for 138 and next up for them is a trip to Ludgvan on Saturday before they host Callington on Bank Holiday Monday.

Both games start at 1.30pm.
