A HAT-TRICK of South West Cup triumphs is on for the Cornish Rebels as they made it to the final again.

The side progressed to the last stage of the competition for the third year in a row on Saturday after defeating Devon Sharks in Torquay.

Regular faces were missing for the Rebels and they were forced to field a number of debutants at Windmill Hill, where the home side held a family fun day raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

There was a conservative start to proceedings with both sides enjoying periods of possession before Rebels loose-forward Martyn Lawrance broke the deadlock with a try in the 15th minute.

Not long after converting the score, scrum-half Sam Carter dotted the ball down himself when he nipped through the defence.

A stunning run from centre James Martin saw him score the first of two tries during the afternoon before the Sharks got on the board through stalwart prop Paul Cartwright in the 28th minute.

Alex Ducker hit back for the visitors though as he danced through the defence from the halfway line to dive over.

Forward Jack Savage was sin-binned for the Rebels for a shoulder charge before half time and Oli Hill made the most of this advantage to dot down for Devon, making the score 22-8.

A fighting start to the second half was made by the hosts, but mistakes cost them any chance of a comeback as Lawrance scored twice more in quick succession.

Hill gained some ground back for the Sharks, but Rebels centre Martin doubled his tally on the day while his centre partner Dan Briskham also got on the scoresheet.

Matt Limmer got a late consolation try for the Sharks before away skipper Paul Saberton dotted down, with Lawrance's fourth score ending matters.

The final will be played on June 20 at a neutral venue against Exeter Centurions, who the Rebels beat in last year to regain the crown.
