LOSING out on the Combination League crown was disappointing, but has not ruined Wendron United's season - according to their boss Paul Murray.

They came close to winning the title, but were outdone by near rivals Mullion who finished the season top of the table with 95 points.

Murray said it would have been brilliant to win the league as well, but feels the side can still be very happy with their spoils over the campaign.

“When you look at it, two cup wins and second in the league is excellent by anyone’s standards,” he said.

“It was disappointing to lose out in the league to Mullion, but they are a good side who only lost three games all season, so you cannot really argue against them winning it.

“When I look back at what we’ve achieved this season in the cold light of day, I’ll have a smile on my face.”

Murray also said he is still not 100 per cent sure whether his work commitments will allow him to stay at Dron, but he is hopeful it will not affect his role in the dugout.

“If I’m able to with my work, which might change soon, I will stay,” Murray said.

“These days work is not as stable as it used to be and it has to take priority, but hopefully I’ll be around to see the job through.

“For now though, I’m looking forward to being on the beach and sea kayaking with the family and not having the phone going off every few minutes before we start up again towards the back end of June.”
