CORNISH rugby bosses have confirmed they are looking at introducing a new competition for second teams from sides around the Duchy to play in.
Officals from the Cornwall RFU have told the Packet they are considering plans for a league or cup contest just for reserve teams, although the idea is still in the very early stages.
It comes after clubs from the county voted against a proposal to allow second teams from Redruth, Camborne, Launceston and St Austell into the Tribute Cornwall One and Two divisions.
A Packet Sport source said during last week’s meeting, clubs voting on the proposal expressed concerns about the strength of the teams adversely affecting the competitiveness of the league.
But following the meeting, the county’s RFU have begun looking into a different competition for the clubs.
Chairman Denis Preece said: “We are looking at ways in which we can introduce some sort of competition for second teams of clubs in Cornwall to participate in.
“It would be open to any second team who can guarantee they could fulfil the fixtures over the course of a season.”
