AN INTERNATIONAL football match will be played in Cornwall for the first time next month.

As part of centenary celebrations of the Cornwall Schools FA, England Schoolboys Under 18s will meet their Welsh counterparts at Treyew Road in Truro on February 27.

It will be the first international match of any level in the Duchy and will be refereed by Premier League and FIFA referee Lee Probert.

The game also coincides with the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Cornwall FA and Truro City.

Ray Brown, chairman of Cornwall Schools FA, said: “It is fantastic to have the first ever international in the county to mark our 100th birthday.

“It is extra special that it can also be included in the 125th anniversary of the Cornwall FA and Truro City, the club whose ground will host the game.

“We are very honoured to be hosting such a prestigious occasion.”

Tickets for the match will cost £6 for adults and £3 for anyone aged 16 or under.
