CORNISH Pirates skipper Chris Morgan said there is no pressure on the side going into their next three games – although they are still aiming for wins.

A tough spell of fixtures are coming up for the Mennaye Field outfit with Worcester, London Scottish and Bristol the next three opponents.

All are currently sat in the top four of the Greene King IPA Championship and have been mainstays there throughout the season.

Looking ahead to the clashes, Morgan believes there will be more pressure on their counterparts.

Morgan said: “We have no expectations on us and the next three games will just about us focusing on our own performance.

“That said, we will still be looking for the win all in three.

“Whatever happens, happens, if we get beaten by a better side then so be it, but we go into every match wanting a win.”

The team head into the next three weeks off the back of two league wins away at local rivals Plymouth Albion on December 27 and Saturday’s 30-12 victory at home over Jersey.

Despite the calibre of their next three opponents, Morgan said beating the Channel Islanders was more important to back up their previous success.

He added the next few matches will give members of the squad a chance to gauge where they stand compared to the best.

“Every game is massive,” the blindside flanker said.

“The win over Jersey backs up our performance at Albion, it just happens to be before a big run of games for us.

“When you look at sides like Bristol, Worcester and Scottish, they are the best in the league and if you aspire to be at that level then you have to compete with them, so it will be an opportunity for some of our guys to see how they match up.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s victory, the club captain said it was pleasing to see the Pirates grind the result out.

He said: “The Mennaye is quite a heavy ground in the conditions we played and we know it better than other teams, so we knew it wouldn’t be easy.

“We were pretty lucky to be 12-9 down at half time as they were beating us in the contact area, but we changed our focus in the second half and outmuscled Jersey.”
