CAMBORNE comfortably maintained their unbeaten home record to keep up the pressure at the top of South West One with a 28-16 victory.

But at the same time they failed to gain the bonus point against a lively Bideford side on Saturday.

The Cherry and Whites welcomed back Grant Thirlby and David Mankee to the starting three-quarter line whilst Martin Woolcock came in for Adam Lewarne at lock.

Bideford gamely looked to move the ball wide throughout an error strewn encounter and took an early lead when their left wing sliced through midfield to set up a run in for full back Sam Olde.

Olly Wickett improved the score with a routine conversion, but almost immediately Alex Ducker set off on a dazzling run downfield.

When he was eventually halted, home centre Steve Kenward seized on a loose ball to go over. Fly-half Mankee added the angled conversion, but a well judged penalty from Wickett then saw Bideford 10-7 up still inside the first quarter.

On 24 minutes Town took the lead when their forwards drove from a line out in front of the West Bank for hooker Sam Bartle to touch down an unconverted try.

Soon afterwards Mankee increased the advantage to five points with an excellent penalty but before half time, the reliable boot of Wickett landed a penalty from 40m to make it only 15-13 at the interval.

Though the visitors now had the slope in their favour, Mankee found the uprights superbly from distance twice in the opening exchanges of the second period for 21-13.

Back came the visitors with Wickett again coolly slotting a 35m penalty, but on the hour the home side moved well clear with a superb individual try by left wing Ducker who cut inside to score at the posts leaving Mankee a simple conversion.

In the final quarter, Camborne went in search of the bonus point with centre Richard Kevern going closest, but the Cherry and Whites repeatedly came up short with the visitors defending doggedly.
