AFTER a first half to forget, Camborne produced a stunning display in the second with four tries to beat Matson 27-15.

In a much changed line-up due to injuries and unavailability, the Cherry and Whites made a slow start going in at the break 10-7 down.

But scores from Richard Kevern, Sam Bartle and Cameron Bone blew their South West One West rivals away in the second half at the Recreation Ground.

With no David Mankee, the backs for Town had a different look as Kevern switched from inside centre to fly-half, Grant Thirlby filling the latter’s place, Joe Parma moving from full-back to left wing and Dean Pascoe taking the number 15 shirt.

In the pack, Stuart Millner came in at tighthead prop while Neil Stanleick jumped in as blindside flanker.

The changes took time to find the right gear and by the end of the first 20 minutes were ten points down as Matson scored a penalty and a converted try.

Camborne saw a number of chances come to nothing in the next quarter despite playing against 13 men as the away team had two men sent into the sinbin.

However they did get on the scoreboard on the stroke of half time when Stanleick drove deep into Matson’s 22 before a swift passing move allowed scrum-half Taron Peacock to go in under the posts.

Thirlby added the extra two points to cut the deficit to just three.

This proved to be a crucial score for the hosts as they returned for the second half pumped and brimming with confidence, leading to a second try quickly after the restart.

Matson spilled the ball near their own goal-line and the alert Kevern grabbed the ball, chipped up a kick and dotted it down in the scoreboard corner.

Just before the hour mark Town’s forwards showed their power to pin Matson back with a series of powerful drives with the end result being hooker Bartle going over, making the score 17-10.

Almost straight from the restart the lead increased further as Rob Floyd collected the kick before hacking it downfield for Kevern to be on hand again to touch down for his second and Town’s fourth try.

With a bonus point in the bag, the home team took their foot off the gas for a second which allowed Matson to work a move over the line for a try which went unconverted.

But this would prove to be a momentary blip in the superb second half performance for the Cherry and Whites as Stanleick slipped a pass out to Bone and the openside flanker burst through a gap to run 30 metre unopposed to score near the corner flag on the left.
