PENRYN ATHLETIC 3

Trevaskis (2), Hobbs

This could have been a difficult away trip for Penryn, who had several first team players missing due to picking up knocks during the opening four games of the season.

But despite travelling with a relatively threadbare squad, Steve Jewel and Stuart Massey's side put in a commanding performance, with home side Holsworthy never really in the game.

On the noticeably short Upcott Field, Penryn were well in control right from the whitsle, creating several early goal scoring chances.

Even so, the goal did not come until the 16th minute, when in-form striker Kayne Trevaskis darted across a his marker to glance a header into the back of the net from Bank Holiday goal hero Ollie Moody's corner.

At this point the home side offered little in reply, but after half an hour's play Holsworthy hit a purple patch and Chris Symons was belatedly forced into action, scrambling to make a save with his feet before the ball dropped to Jason Cordise, who somehow managed to spoon his shot over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

Symons tipped over another stinging shot from Holsworthy's other live wire, Marcus Pethick, as the hosts continued to press, and Penryn were glad to hear the half time whistle as they looked to regroup for the start of the second half.

After the break Symons and Penryn captain Dave Blizzard had to be at their best to keep Penryn's noses in front, and there was some relief when the second goal arrived in the 57th minute.

Greg Hobbs produced another near post header which bore more than a passing resemblance to Trevaskis's earlier goal. The Penryn midfielder cut across a pack of players to head Ollie Moody's corner past Jack Dixoin in the Hoslworthy goal.

And Penryn put any suggestions of a Holsworthy comeback firmly to bed in the 72nd minute after a fine move on the left wing saw impressive youngster Russel May whip in a cross for Trevaskis, who steered another glancing header high and wide of Dixon to wrap up the win.
