Falmouth captain Adrian Noott said his side will appeal one of the point deductions levelled against them during Saturday’s ECB premier league game against St Austell.

Another ruthless performance saw Falmouth run out comfortable winnners to maintain their position over second placed Werrington at the top of the table.

But the victory was, in Noott’s words,  ‘soured’ by the umpires’ decision to dock Falmouth two points for failing to maintain the required over rate of 17 per hour whilst in the field.

Noott said Falmouth would accept one of the penalty points, but with the title race set to go down to the wire, the club would challenge the second, which came about as a result of confusion between the teams and the umpires over the time the innings’ first ball was bowled.

“It’s frustrating,” Noott said, “because we absolutely annihilated them. We were top draw from the word go. Our bowling was tight, our discipline was excellent. We got their two key batsmen out early on and then picked them off.

“We’ll accept one [point deduction] but we’ll appeal the other because you could win or lose the league by that one point.”

Despite the gloss being taken off what was a resounding victory, Noott praised his side’s consistency.

“Last year we lost two or three uni guys and had a few youngsters come in to fill the gaps who maybe weren’t reaady. This year we’ve had a consisten side who are all capable of playing premier league cricket, and that’s made a massive difference.”

With Werrington just five points behind Falmouth with six games to play, the stage is set for a mouth-watering final day clash with their league rivals at Trescobeas.

“It would be amazing if it turns out that way,” admitted Noott, but there’s little doubt Falmouth will look to have sealed their first league title for over a decade well before then.
