REDRUTH 55 all out

FALMOUTH 59-2

Falmouth won by eight wickets.

After midweek defeat in the Edwards Cup against Werrington, Falmouth captain Adrian Noott will no doubt have been looking for some kind of response from his players when they took on Redruth at Trescobeas on Saturday.

But even he must have been surpsied with just how emphatic that response was.

Falmouth dismantled Redruth with almost embarrassing ease, barely breaking a sweat despite the game being played in blazing sunshine.

Antony Angove and Justin Stephens were again at their deadly best, helping bowl the visitors out for just 55 runs, before Falmouth chased their total down for the loss of just two wickets.

Falmouth won the toss and put Redruth in to bat, and from the very first ball bowlers Angove and Stephens seemed to rattle the visitors top order.

Openers Harry Bolland and Ben Page had no sooner taken to the crease before being sent back to the dressing room, Richard Kellow taking two catches off the bowling of Angove for just four runs.

Stephens dismissed Redruth danger man Christian Purchase for just seven, Angove did for Mark Jenkin, and Stephens had Steve Kevern trapped LBW for two.

Tail-ender Darren Shorland was the only Redruth batsman to make it into double figures as Stephens bulldozed his way through the lower order.

George Popperwell pitched in with two wickets of his own, but it was Stephens who rightly took the plaudits, posting figures of 5 for 24 as Redruth were skittled for just 55.

In response Kellow (7) and Matt Goldsbury (17) were the only casualties as Stefan Churcher, and later Antony Angove eased Falmouth over the line to keep the pressure on league leaders Werrington.
