Exeter Chiefs were put to the sword by Clermont Auvergne on their Heineken Cup home debut at Sandy Park yesterday.

The French visitors ran in five second-half tries to win 46-12.

Chiefs led 12-10 at half-time through four Gareth Steenson penalties but it was a different story after the break.

Seven days earlier Exeter had put up a superb peformance in their cup opener at Leinster, going down 9-6 after a titanic battle.
