Burnham 2nds 25, Somerton 1sts 17

THE home side started brightly with the wind behind them and used the elements to pin back the visitors within their half for the first 10 minutes.

With a majority of possession, the Burnham pack produced some quick ball from a ruck for Lee Berry to spin out to Mike Whitfield at fly-half and Josh Holder at inside centre who slipped his first tackle, committed the next and popped the ball to Will Grant who sprinted over for the first score of the game to lead 5-0.

Josh Holder gladly slotted over the posts to take an 8-0 lead with 15 minutes gone before Holder was again in the action to offload the ball to Ginge for Burnham’s second try to see their team into a 13-0 lead.

That soon became 20-0 when Whitfield dummied his opposite number before the visitors responded with a try of their own to wrap up the first-half scoring.

Somerton had their belief back early in the second half when they scored another try to make it 20-12 but Burnham regained the 13 point lead when Tom Stevens took the ball and offloaded to Gilly Hicks who was forced over the try line to see the team win 25-17 after Somerton scored a late try.

l The team travel to Wiveliscombe 2nds on Saturday with a 3pm kick-off.
