GOLF: Lambden lifts Kennard Cup at Tiverton

JAMES Lambden shot a four-under nett 67 to lift the men’s Kennard Cup at Tiverton on Saturday and cut his handicap from six to five.

Lambden birdied the 1st and 5th on his way to a one-stroke victory over Neil Megarry, Heath Ellis and Derek Cruwys.

For the second competition in a row there was a hole-in-one – as Lloyd Sampson had his first ever ace on the 4th with a pitching wedge.

It followed the holes-in-one on the 14th by Tony Allsopp and Andy Brice in the Chairman's Cup a fortnight earlier.

Shaun Vickery carded 40 points to clinch the men’s October Midweek Stableford on Monday.

Late birdies on the 15th and 18th helped Vickery top Division One, while Tony Wood-Wright took the Division Two prize with 39.

Sam Heard won his second junior competition in less than a month after securing the Barry Austin Shield on Sunday.

The youngster posted Stableford 44 points – the same score that won him the Texaco Salver in September.

Heard, who is now playing off 19, eased out Bradley Scott (41), Jay Scott (39) and Harry Konig (38).

Dan Tidborough won the nine-hole non-CONGU competition with 24, ahead of Bradley Jack (21) and Jamie Waterman (17).

Emily Vickery and Harriet Davey were joint winners of the four-hole beginners’ event, with Harry Pryce and Rees Aitchison joint third.

Tidborough was nearest the pin on the 4th while Alex Trepess claimed the prize on the 12th.

Charlie Sampson and Grace Jackson won the juniors’ most improved boy and girl awards for 2012.

Sampson won two men’s knock-out events this year – the Brock-Mills-Perkins tournament for higher-handicappers and the Summer Foursomes with his father Lloyd.

Jackson won the juniors’ Amory Putter competition after beating Tom Waldron in the final and represented Devon girls this season.

She recently took part in an England coaching assessment and is waiting to her if she has been selected.

The awards were presented by junior secretary Nick Swarbrick after the Barry Austin Shield.
