Burnham 13, Barton hill 19

AFTER a week of heavy rain, Barton Hill turned up to find Burnham's first team pitch in excellent condition and with the sun shining a great game of rugby was to be expected.

Burnham's largest crowd this season turned up but it was the visitors who started the stronger to score their first try in the corner through a lineout then a rolling maul with their second row touching down try was unconverted.

With 20 minutes gone, Barton added their second try with poor tackling along the line their full back burst through to draw the full back and pass to the winger who raced in under the posts, a try which was converted.

Burnham finally woke up and pulled themselves together to get back into the game, through some good phases with Webb Gowan and Blake at the forefront of it all they got into Barton's 22 where they forced a scrum and with some good handling through Hayden and Elisi with the latter dummying and shimmying his way over for an unconverted try.

The first-half scoring was completed when Tim Piper shrugged off two tackles to race in from 25 metres following good work by captain Russell Pike as they trailed 10-12 at the break.

But the second half didn't start well for Burnham and the visitors centre smashed his way through to make the scores 10-19.

Changes were brought on for Burnham and Piper clawed three points back when he slotted over a penalty but it was the last scoring move of the day with the final score 13-19 to Barton Hill.

Man of the match: Bryan Webb.

Next Saturday, Burnham travel to Berry Hill for a 3pm kick-off.
