EXETER City slipped to fourth in League Two yesterday with a 2-0 home defeat by Port Vale.
But Vale, who won thanks to two goals from Tom Pope, proved they will be strong promotion contenders themselves this season as the win leaves them just two points behind leader Gillingham.
