DESPITE leading twice during the game, Taunton bowed out of the Red Insure Cup at the first hurdle when they were beaten 3-2 at Tiverton Town yesterday.

The Peacocks were considerably the better side in the first half, taking the lead after eight minutes when Owen Irish headed home a swinging cross from Gary Saunders.

And Jamie Short was also unlucky when he cracked a shot against the upright.

The home side equalised five minutes after the break when Owen Howe glanced in a cross from Andy Taylor but Taunton regained the lead on 59 minutes through Craig Herrod who ran onto a long ball from Dave Hambly to slot past Chris Wright.

Short was again denied, this time by Wright's fine save, before Tiverton luckily drew level via a bizarre goal on 75 minutes.

Goalkeeper Connor Sidley-Adams missing his kick on a Saunders back pass to allow Joe Bushin to run in and make sure the ball crossed the line.

As the match appeared to be destined for extra time, a Taylor free kick from the left was headed in by Kevin Hill to hand Tiverton a fortunate passage in to round two.
