FOOTBALL: Tiverton face Taunton in re-match
Tiverton Town take on Taunton Town for the second time in the space of 11 days when they clash in the first round of the Red Insure Cup at Ladysmead tomorrow, kick-off 3pm.
The sides met at the same venue last week for a league fixture which ended 2-1 in favour of the Yellows so Taunton will be keen to redress the balance this weekend.
The Red Insure Cup tie has been brought forward from its original date of October 16 as both clubs were going to be without a game as their scheduled opponents are still involved in the FA Cup.
After Taunton’s notable FA Trophy victory at Frome last Saturday, the Peacocks will be keen to keep the momentum going but team changes may be on the cards.
Manager Leigh Robinson said: “It’s a game we are looking forward to as it’s a local derby and a nice ground to play at.
“We’ll be using the Red Insure Cup to give game time to those players in the squad who haven’t been playing recently and possibly have a look at new players, so it’ll be very much rotating things to keep people fresh.
“We’ve got quite a few niggles after a tough ten days or so and consequently I’m left with little choice.”
Tiverton go into the match on the back of a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Weymouth in the FA Trophy at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.
The Yellows fell a goal behind after just four minutes which seemed to derail their game plan.
And once Paul Kendall had been sent off for two bookable offences, Weymouth were able to wrap the game up with further strikes from Dan Smith and Mark Ford.
The final result may have been a bit harsh on Tivvy, and the Yellows certainly had their chances, but there was a distinct gulf between the two teams.
