Taunton Town take on Tiverton Town for the second time in the space of 11 days when they clash in the first round of the Red Insure Cup at Ladysmead tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).

The sides met last week in Devon for a League fixture which ended 2-1 in favour of Tiverton so Taunton will want to redress the balance this weekend.

The Red Insure Cup tie has been brought forward from its original date of October 16 as both clubs were going to be without a game due to their scheduled opponents still being involved in the FA Cup.

After Town’s notable FA Trophy victory at Frome last Saturday, the Peacocks will be keen to keep the momentum going but team changes may be on the cards.

Manager Leigh Robinson said: “It’s a game we are looking forward to as it’s a local derby and a nice ground to play at.

“We’ll be using the Red Insure Cup to give game time to those players in the squad who haven’t been playing recently and possibly have a look at new players, so it’ll be very much rotating things to keep people fresh. We’ve got quite a few niggles after a tough ten days or so and consequently I’m left with little choice.”

Top goalscorer Rodney Marsh will miss the match as he is serving a one-game suspension following his dismissal against Swindon Supermarine, while Simon Ingram remains a doubt with a groin injury that has forced him to miss the last two games.

Lee Smyth returns to the squad after being unavailable last week.

The match will be decided on the day using extra time and penalties if necessary.

Taunton are due to return to Evo-Stik League action on Tuesday evening when Yate Town visit Wordsworth Drive (kick-off 7.45pm).

The match however will be postponed should Yate require a replay from their FA Cup tie with North Leigh. Taunton are also at home the following Saturday to North Leigh in another League game where there will be a special offer for admission prices as part of Non-League Day.

See next week’s County Gazette for more details.
