Burnham Ladies Hockey Club kick off season at weekend Burnham Ladies Hockey Club kick off season at weekend

BURNHAM Ladies Hockey Club’s league season starts in earnest this Saturday at home to Minehead 2nds at 10am.

With a new coach, some new players and a better league structure this season, the Blues are looking forward to playing again and having a better, more successful season than the last.

Training is now at King Alfred school on Mondays from 7-8pm but members arrive from 6.30pm to warm-up.

Home matches are played at the school at 10am and Burnham will play other teams from Somerset and Devon in Sedgemoor Division 2.

Burnham have played two friendlies to date with mixed results due to several changes in personnel.

They drew 2-2 with Nailsea with June England and Kerry Harvey getting off the mark with a goal each in a very impressive first half, but then lost 3-0 to Cheddar the following week.

Players of the matches were Sam Course and Sian Kelly respectively.

With work and other commitments having an impact on the club’s small squad, Burnham are always on the look-out for new players to increase their ranks – in particular for a goalkeeper – to support the one they have.
