Burnham-on-Sea II 41, Martock 24

SEVEN tries helped Burnham 2nds open their league account for the season against Martock at the weekend.

IN the opening exchanges, from good loose front possession, the ball was quickly fed through the hands of scrum half Whitfield through Matt BR into the hands of Dave Harris to score in the corner.

This fine try was sadly unconverted but it was a wakeup call as Martock unleashed a strong reply and pushed the Burnham side into their own 22' but some great defending from George Scott, Matt Slater and Glen Cutter turned the tables and Lloyd broke out slipping the ball to ST who finished a fine move by crossing the line this effort was converted by Mike Whitfield.

Try number three came from a good move as Lloyd fed Matt and SP touched down from the wing.

Martock responded with a try but Burnham replied with a carbon copy of the previous try to set a good platform.

The second period started in the same vein as the Burnham pack turned over the ball which was quickly fed through the hands of Whitfield and Matt to give Dave Harris the pleasure of touching down, again the conversion eluded the Burnham side.

Martock scored two penalties to close the gap but there were two further tries for Burnham to claim a comfortable win.

This weekend, the team are at home to Minehead and players are requested to make a special effort to train Thursday.
