Somerset County League First Division

Burnham United 1, Banwell 4

UNITED suffered defeat at the weekend as unavailability’s decimated the squads.

Saunders, Mylum, Neilson, Smith, Bitton, Burnell, Harding, Warren, Beattie, Selway are just some of the players who were unavailable and the first team where forced to play a few players carrying knocks and suffering from flu.

The score line flattered Banwell as United played the better football. Despite this, they found themselves two goals down at the interval – a rare mistake from the home keeper allowing the Banwell striker a tap-in and an unfortunate penalty awarded for a handball against Ell Lamb gave the away side the advantage.

Burnham felt aggrieved having had a penalty shout waived away and also having a goal disallowed when the Banwell linesman flagged for offside.

In the second half, United threw everything they had at a good Banwell side and, despite getting a goal back, the away side grabbed two further goals on the break.
