A THREE hour battle for the Ladies Doubles title proved the highlight of Wiveliscombe Tennis Club's Finals Day yesterday.

Sally Mears and Mary Hughes needed a tie-break to beat Claire Fisher and Anne Parker, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.

The Men's Doubles took almost as long, with Shaun Mears and Jeremy Birchall dropping a set in a tie-break before beating Iain Beath and Jeremy Toye 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.

Peter Pearson took less time to beat Phil Burden 6-2, 6-2 for the Men's Singles title.

Sue Courtney drew the shortest straw of the day, as she was unable to play her Ladies' Singles final and her Mixed Doubles clash alongside husband Oliver.

Wiveliscombe Tennis Club, on the town's recreation ground, welcomes members and visitors throughout the year. Contact Jeremy Toye at jemtoye@gmail.com.
