Wellington have announced that Colin Merrick has been dismissed as manager of the Toolstation League division one club.

The decision was taken at an emergency management committee meeting last night (Monday) after Wellington’s 4-0 defeat at home to Devizes, during which Merrick was sent to the stand for his protests over the visitors’ second goal.

After the meeting, chairman Mike Hall said: “We felt that, after Saturday, Colin’s position was untenable and we had no alternative but to take action.

“We would like to place on record our thanks for his efforts on behalf of Wellington AFC and wish him all the best for the future.”

Mr Hall added: “We hope to have a new manager in place as soon as possible and will make an announcement when we can.”

Wellington have two tough games in four days this week – they entertain neighbours Chard Town in the league tomorrow (Wednesday, 7.30pm) and then are away to premier division Barnstaple Town in the FA Carlsberg Vase on Saturday.
