Somerset County League Premier
Odd Down Res 0, Berrow 1
BERROW maintained their perfect start to the season, completing the double over Odd Down’s second string. The team were without Pete John so Ross Vickery took his place in the squad for the first time this season.
The game got off to a similar start to the reverse fixture, with both sides struggling with the heat. As the half progressed, Berrow began to gain a foothold in the game with Luke Morgan providing decent opportunities for Ian Bellinger and Connor Watts.
Ten minutes before the interval, the visitors took the lead as Luke McErlain released Watts to round the keeper and score his fifth goal in as many matches. Phil Hartnup could have doubled the lead only to see his effort cleared off the line.
The hosts could have been level with the last kick of the half only to be denied by a great save from Ash Harrison.
The second half was a tight affair with Jeff Read and Watts going close.
Berrow tired in the last 10 minutes and Odd Down pressed hard for an equaliser but Harrison in the Berrow goal was excellent when called upon, earning him the man of the match tag despite fine performances from Morgan and Read.
After the game, assistant manager Simon Baunton said: “It was, once again, a far from vintage performance but, as we’ve found in previous years, this is a hard place to go.
“We’ve kept another clean sheet which is three in a row now and the level of effort from the lads has been excellent.”
Berrow: Harrison, Gass, Read, Marshfield, Harper, Hartnup, L.McErlain, Catlow, Bellinger, Watts, Morgan. subs; R.McErlain, R.Vickery, J.Vickery.
