Chairman’s XI 123-5 beat President’s XI 119-6 by 5 wkts
BURNHAM President’s XI openers, Bradley House and S. Birkett, started positively, taking the score to 44 in the ninth over, when the latter was dismissed by a sharp stumping by Graeme Batt.
Darren Aston played aggressively from the off, scoring at more than a-run-a-ball but he lost partner House to a sharp stumping and then he fell shortly after. After 15 overs, the score stood at 73-3.
Andy Smith then came to the fore to keep his head while under pressure with Mark Tipler as the pair scored 32 off the last three overs. Malcolm House was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets.
Needing to score at exactly six runs per over to win, Andy Birkett wasted no time in getting the chase off to a good start, scoring 15 before being caught and bowled by Adam Martin.
Batt, who was promoted up the order, was dismissed off the bowling of Ashdown, as was Pete Gaylard and when Cain Harding was caught with just 40 on the board, it seemed to be the President’s XI’s game to lose.
Jim Bloodworth, however, had other ideas, managing the run rate expertly so the target never seemed completely out of reach. Ably assisted by M, House, the pair put on 40 for the fifth wicket.
House was bowled by Brian Brogden for 18, but the incoming Robbie Driver adapted to the situation expertly. With seven needed from the last over, Bloodworth (48 not out) took a single and Driver smashed successive fours to win the game.
