Cullompton and Sidmouth played out a tough and uncompromising encounter at Stafford Park on Saturday which fully lived up to the reputation of derby matches between the teams and resulted in a 16-12 victory for the home side.

The match was preceded by a minute's silence to honour the memory of former Cullompton treasurer and club stalwart Roger Williams, Sidmouth opened with a score and threatened throughout the first half but Cully defended well and pulled back a couple of penalties for 6-7 at the interval.

After the break Cully stepped up a gear with their forwards piling on the pressure and took a 16-7 lead until a defensive mix up in the dying minutes, led to an unconverted Sidmouth try and a tense finale.
