GOLF: Solid Laming lands the Hamp Cup
A BUSY week at Taunton & Pickeridge saw the seniors enjoying near-perfect conditions for the Hamp Cup, with a field of 60 players competing in this annual event.
The winner was Matt Laming with some very solid golf contributing to his 41 points.
Mike Crump, David Ely and Gerry Ballantine completed the top four positions.
In the ladies’ section the LUG Breakthrough Breast Cancer competition was a closely fought contest, raising a good sum of money for the charity. Linda Lynch took first place with a nett 73, narrowly beating Carole Rotherham. Heather Crump won the Bronze division with a nett score of 77.
Saturday’s main event was the Pickeridge Cup, a better-ball Stableford attracting an entry of 100 players.
Top place went to the pairing of Neil Grout and Rob Allan who beat Andy Jones and John Davies on countback after both teams recorded 46 points.
Roy Mitchell’s brace of twos helped him and Andy Collins reach 42 points, but their back nine score wasn’t enough to take third spot from Nick Taylor and James Breakwell.
