Both finalists from last year’s Knockout Cup in the Sampford Peverell and District league have been beaten in the first round.

Winners Manor House Hotel lost to Barmy Army and runners-up Bradninch C Club were beaten by Globe Appley.

Lion Cubs are the only Division C team still in the competition.

Reports: Tiverton Chiefs found themselves 13 pins down after three legs against Merriemeade, and just could not make any inroads into that deficit.

Barmy Army ended any hopes that the holders of the Knockout Cup, Manor House Hotel, that they would retain the trophy. The home team won five out six legs to earn a convincing victory.

Lumberjacks gave Uplowman a lesson in playing on their home alley, setting up a match-deciding lead of 38 pins after four legs.

Globe Appley B had their noses in front after four legs, against Barley Knockons, but saw the visitors pull 20 pins on the last two legs to take away the spoils by 14.

Brass Monkeys could not repeat their form of the previous week as they lost narrowly to Elmore Club. Man of the Match Roger Lowman, acting captain and anchor man, posted a 4-spare 71.

Oggies overwhelmed White Horse, winning five out of the six legs with three in the 70s. New boy Martyn Bolt, in his first game, scored a 2-spare 64.

All Blacks looked as if their first game of the new season would be a losing one against Booze Cruzers as they were 14 pins down after four legs. But the home team fought back to run out 14-pin winners.

Redwoods made a good start in their game against The Beare, winning the first leg by 18, and this proved decisive as they hung to win by 12.

Lion Cubs posted a comfortable victory over fellow Division C team, Jims Boys. They had 39 pins in hand after four legs, and though the Boys fought back the game was gone.

Bellies charged into a 21 pin lead after three legs against Globetrotters, only to see that lead cut back by 11, but that was the visitors’ bolt shot.

Though The Farmers were five pins up after two legs in their game against Welcome Rebels, they saw that lead ate into and passed over the next four.

Huntsham A started their game against Castaways by losing the first two legs, and though they won the next two, they could pull back enough pins and went down by 12.

Globe Appley were on fire as they dealt a severe blow to any hopes Bradninch C Club had of progressing into the next round. GA won all the legs with one of the highest scores posted on their alley.
